Morris County Prosecutors Warn Of IRS Phone Scam
EAST HANOVER, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Morris County prosecutors have issued a warning about a phone scam.
Prosecutors said an East Hanover resident received a call from someone claiming to be with the IRS.
Francine Ehrenberg, with the Morris County Prosecutor's Office Financial Crimes Unit, told WCBS 880's Sophia Hall the way it works is the victim is asked to get what's called a Reloadit Card.
"They load money onto the card and then they speak again with the scammer and give them access to the account number on the card," she said.

Prosecutors said the victim then received a second call from someone pretending to be from the Sheriff's Office. That time, the victim was instructed to get a cashier's check for a substantial amount of money or face arrest.
Ehrenberg said in these situations, never give any money or personal information over the phone.
"Whether it be your credit card information, whether it be access to your bank accounts," she said.
Prosecutors said if you're ever contacted with such demands to call police.
