Morgan Library Reopens Next Month
NEW YORK (AP) - The Morgan Library & Museum's historic McKim, Mead and White building in New York City will reopen next month after a $4.5 million restoration of its ornate interior.
It's the first major restoration of the McKim-designed space since the building opened in 1906. It will reopen Oct. 30.
The museum's new glass-and-steel wing designed by Italian architect Renzo Piano remained open during the renovations.
The restored interior will open with a show of nearly 300 objects from 3500 to the 20th century. Previously, some 30 artifacts were regularly on view.
The building once housed the private study and library of financier Pierpont Morgan. He collected rare objects, including illuminated medieval manuscripts, and drawings by Leonardo da Vinci, Rembrandt and other old masters.
