More Layoffs Possible In Nassau County
MINEOLA, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - Having already laid off hundreds of county employees, Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano is now threatening more job cuts.

That's his response to a court order preventing him from cutting costs through union contract modifications.
Police union President James Carver, in the meantime, told WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs there's a better way.
He said threats aren't the answer.
"Come down to the table. We're willing to do it. We have been doing it," he said. "Let's negotiate something that provides savings and works for everybody that's far."
The county executive is looking for about $40 million in savings for property tax refunds.
Some union leaders say county workers have already been cut to the bone, and have no more to give.
Mangano already announced plans in July to lay off at least 100 civil service workers by October. An additional 100 employees are expected to take retirement incentives and depart their jobs before the end of the year, Newsday reported.
