Month-Long Repair Project On Stretch Of Bronx River Parkway Under Way
SCARSDALE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - A major repair project along the Bronx River Parkway in Yonkers has begun.
The northbound Bronx River Parkway will be detoured at Harney Road during the midday hours until July 19.
As WCBS 880's Paul Murnane reported, the roads in the village of Scarsdale are shouldering the burden. The local roads were busy but moving on Monday afternoon, Murnane reported.
Month-Long Repair Project On Stretch Of Bronx River Parkway Under Way
Westchester Public Works and Transportation Commissioner Jay Pisco said they've timed this phase of the three year, $39 million Crane Road Bridge Replacement Project to minimize impact.
"When really we get into the high activity of the project, there'll be something on the order of 400 detour signs around different areas," Pisco told Murnane.
A stretch of the roadway will close from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. During that time, northbound drivers will be diverted at Harney Road and re-enter the parkway at Crane Road.
The southbound parkway is unaffected by the project.
"In another week and a half, you're going to see the super structure for the railroad bridge go up for that phase and you'll be seeing piers gradually come out of the river and leading to the erection of the superstructure. The very last thing you'll be seeing is the demolition of the existing structure," Crane Road Bridge Replacement Project Manager Scott Donnelly told Murnane.
The project is designed around the needs of Metro-North, drivers and even some species of fish, Murnane reported.
According to officials, the effort spanning railroad, roadway and river may be the most complex project yet at the county level.
