NEW YORK (WCBS 880) - The Suffolk County Sheriff's Department has been patrolling both the Long Island Expressway and Sunrise Highway since 2008 and now the numbers are in.

Statistics show that in the past three years fatalities are down on both stretches of roadway.
But DWI arrests are up.
The sheriff credits the B.A.T. Mobile - a mobile breath alcohol testing unit that can come to the scene when someone is pulled over suspected of DWI.
It has led to faster processing times and has left more officers on the roads.
