Milliner: Jets 'Like Me'; Idzik Open To Trading Down In Draft
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- It's the question on every Jets fan's mind: what will the team do Thursday with its pair of first-round picks?
How's trading down sound?
New Jets general manager John Idzik, with the ninth and thirteenth overall selections in the NFL Draft, has fielded calls from clubs looking to nab a higher pick, according to ESPN.
"I think the real substantive talks will come tomorrow," Idzik said Wednesday, according to ESPN's Sal Paolantonio. "I think we're in a position at No. 9 and No. 13 in the first round to get two really good players, but it also opens up the gates for potential alternatives, potentially trading down and picking up more players. We'll be open minded about it. This is a very deep draft."
Idzik said the Jets would "not be averse" to selecting anyone -- quarterbacks included. He also has apparently adopted the Giants' draft philosophy: not plugging holes, but selecting the best "talent available."
Dee Milliner could be the best of both worlds if the Alabama star is still on the board. He's considered the draft's top-rated cornerback, a position severely hurt by the Darrelle Revis trade.
"I talked to them when I visited up there. They like me," Milliner said of the Jets at the NFL's Play 60 event Wednesday in Manhattan. "They probably like me more now since they got rid of Revis."
Milliner brushed off concerns about his health, and said he'd "feel fine" replacing Revis in New York.
"I'd go in and just do what I'm supposed to do, do work, and just go about playing the way I've been playing," he said.
