Military Pups Aid Airmen During New York's Air Force Week
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- It's Air Force Week in New York and the military police have enlisted man's best friend for help in keeping New Yorkers safe.
But these aren't your average pups - these are military work dogs.
Senior Air Force Airman Alfred Mancini and Staff Sergeant Carey Tignor joined the Couch Tuesday morning with military working dog, MWD Zsultan.
"We're going to be having all sorts of events," said Mancini. "Everybody has a certain schedule that they're keeping."
One of the free events taking place is a military dog demonstration. As Mancini explains, though they may look likeyour typical household pet, these dogs have a job to do.

"We train our dogs in a patrol aspect, the same thing as local law enforcement, but we also train them a little bit more in a detective purpose," he said. "We have detector dogs that are trained in explosives, and also narcotics."
Because the pups are trained in such serious business, they're not allowed to socialize.
"We can't allow anyone to pet our dogs, it can actually diminish their demeanor at work."
