LISTEN: Francesa Calls Trump Victory 'Most Remarkable Political Story Of The Modern Age'
NEW YORK (WFAN) -- Mike Francesa stepped away from sports for a bit Wednesday afternoon, instead opening his WFAN show discussing Donald Trump's stunning victory in the presidential election.
Francesa, who voiced his support for the Republican candidate on the air earlier this year, called Trump's upset of Hillary Clinton "the most remarkable political story of the modern age, I think probably the most miraculous political story of all time."
"They probably saw even a more amazing victory than if Hillary had won in that this was probably not only one of the great upsets of all time, but really when you take it from where he started, one of the most remarkable stories in political history," Francesa said.
Francesa called the outcome "earth-shattering."

"Politics will never be the same after this," he said. "There's no way it will ever be the same or treated the same or campaigns run the same way or people view things or poll the same way. I mean, it completely obliterated the way the system worked."
Francesa also spoke about how he grappled with the decision of whether to discuss the election on his show. He said after he talked about Trump at length earlier this year, he received "more mail than I'd ever gotten for anything in all the years," most of it from angry listeners arguing he should stick to sports or should not be supporting Trump.
He said Mark Chernoff, WFAN's vice president of programming, was, too, inundated with listener feedback.
"He came to me and said, 'You know what, I don't know if we should do this. It might be bad for the show. You're a sports show, and you don't want to divide the audience,'" Francesa recounted. "And so I looked at it. I let that sway me, and I said, 'You know what, I won't talk about it for a while.' And then what I came to make a decision on was that so many programs were doing nothing but Trump that I thought actually if we just did our regular shows, it was almost a place people could go and not hear Trump.'"
