Manhole Fire Brings Traffic Woes In Midtown East
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A manhole fire caused traffic delays that were further exacerbated by rain in Midtown East on Wednesday.
Cellphone video showed thick smoke and flames coming from the pavement at Lexington Avenue and 56th Street around 4 p.m.
The video shot by Brett Essenter showed billows of thick gray smoke and flames shooting out of the manhole, as electrical buzzing noises were heard.
The fire impacted traffic lights, leading to backups.
