The restaurant opened in 1988. The great baseball player it was named after died in 1995.

"It's a very sad and difficult decision," said owner Christopher Villano. "We are proud to have served as a fun gathering place for Yankee fans and been host to important sports broadcasts and announcements over the years."

The restaurant was a popular watering hole for Yankee fans and was known for its decor of sports memorabilia and art.

"Unfortunately, increasing food prices, shifting city regulations, and landlord interference with our attempts to effectively market the lease made for a situation that is no longer manageable," Villano said.

The closure of the popular spot comes just a few weeks after beloved Midtown institution Prime Burger shuttered after 74 years.
