Michael Vick Reportedly Not Interested In Joining Marty Mornhinweg, Jets
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- So now that Marty Mornhinweg is headed to East Rutherford, will quarterback Michael Vick follow him to New Jersey?
It doesn't seem very likely.
Mornhinweg was the Eagles' offensive coordinator/assistant head coach from 2006 up until 2012, and Vick has been with Philadelphia since 2009.
But Vick and Mornhinweg had issues this past season, sources told ESPN. According to the network, neither the four-time Pro Bowler nor the newly-hired offensive coordinator have any desire to continue their working relationship with the Jets.
Vick was hampered by injuries and relegated to backup duty in Philadelphia this past season, as the Eagles finished 4-12 and last in the NFC.
In his fourth year with the Eagles, the 32-year-old threw 12 touchdown to 10 interceptions and fumbled the ball 11 times. He completed 58.1 percent of his passes and rushed for a touchdown.
Back in late December, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com reported that Vick "would consider signing with the Jets if he were paid more than Mark Sanchez, making it clear that Vick was the No. 1 quarterback on the depth chart."
Vick, scheduled to earn $15.5 million in 2013, could very likely be released by Philadelphia once the offseason begins.
"I have a lot of football left in me, a lot left in my tank," he said in December, according to the Philadelphia Daily News. "The future will take care of itself."
The Jets' quarterback situation remains a major problem. Sanchez regressed for the second consecutive season, Tim Tebow will likely be released or traded and Greg McElroy doesn't appear to be a No.1 signal caller.
With Mornhinweg and new general manager John Idzik -- not to mention David Lee, who is reported to be the Jets' new quarterbacks coach -- at the helm, plenty of change could be in store after the Super Bowl is over.
The Jets finished 2012 ranked 30th in total offense under Tony Sparano, who was fired along with general manager Mike Tannenbaum following the conclusion of Gang Green's disappointing season.
