Mets Unveil Logo For 2013 All-Star Game At Citi Field
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — The Mets have unveiled the logo for the 2013 All-Star game and attached the insignia to the center-field scoreboard at Citi Field.
Mets stars David Wright, Johan Santana, R.A. Dickey and manager Terry Collins were joined by former Mets Dwight Gooden, Keith Hernandez, John Franco and Ron Darling at Tuesday's ceremony.
"I think to showcase this ballpark next year is a big thing," Mets chief operating officer Jeff Wilpon said. "I think with the fences moved in now the Home Run Derby will be a lot of fun."
The logo for the game next July is similar to the Mets' symbol, in blue and orange with a bridge spanning a city skyline that represents all five boroughs.
"Major League Baseball hit a home run when they chose to hold the 2013 All-Star Game in New York City," Mayor Michael Bloomberg said in a statement. "Incorporating our city's iconic skyline into the logo highlights that the game will be played on the world's biggest stage."
Wright thanked Wilpon and the team for moving in the fences this year at the spacious ballpark, saying it would help at the All-Star Home Run Derby.
"It would've been unprecedented to have to hit from second base," Wright quipped.
