Mets Tweet 'Dice-KKK,' Then Delete It And Say It Was 'Unintended'
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Rule of thumb: Think before you tweet.
The Mets' social-media team clearly didn't do that on Monday afternoon.
In spring training action on Monday, starting pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka struck out the side against the Cardinals in the first inning.
The Mets' Twitter account tweeted the following: "Dice-KKK off to a quick start. He strikes out the side in the 1st inning. #NYMvsSTL"
Needless to say, that tweet ruffled some feathers and was seen as offensive.
The Mets deleted the tweet, and then posted another tweet clarifying that "KKK" merely indicated that Dice-K struck out three batters, and any reference to the Ku Klux Klan was "unintended."
As they say, you are what you tweet. Be careful...
