Mets Search For 2011 National Anthem Singers
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Attention all singers: today could be your lucky day!
The New York Mets were holding their annual Anthem Search Monday morning at Citi Field.
The first 100 contestants to arrive are guaranteed an audition and a chance to perform a song of their choice, excluding the National Anthem.

Singing the country's anthem can be a lot harder than it sounds. All you have to do is ask Christina Aguilera who flubbed the lyrics prior to this year's Super Bowl.

1010 WINS' John Montone decided to hit the line outside Citi Field and tried to find someone who knew the words to "Meet The Mets" thinking it would make sense considering it's the team's ballpark.
No such luck.
"Meet the Mets, greet the Mets, how does it go? I don't know," sang one woman.

Finalists from Monday's event will move on to the next round where they will be judged on their performance of the National Anthem. Each winner will perform "The Star-Spangled Banner" before a game later this season.
Other singers who have stepped on the field in Flushing include Marc Anthony, Kristin Chenoweth, Glenn Close, Sheryl Crow, Billy Joel, Cyndi Lauper and Rihanna.
Winning the Anthem Search could be a gateway to other opportunities. Pia Toscano won the Mets Anthem Search in 2008 and now is one of the favorites on season 10 of "American Idol."
The auditions are free and open to all ages. Anyone under 18-years-old must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
