Mets Recall Elvin Ramirez
NEW YORK (WFAN) - The New York Mets have recalled right-handed pitcher Elvin Ramirez. The move was reported on the Mets' official Twitter on Saturday evening.
The 24-year-old was called-up following news of the Mets placing starting pitcher Johan Santana on the 15-day disabled list.
In 5 games with the Mets this season, Ramirez has pitched 7.o innings and surrendered 7 earned runs. His 2012 big league ERA stands at 9.00.
Ramrez is 3-1 in 29 minor league appearances and has recorded 2 saves for Triple-A Buffalo.
Mets fans were hoping that an exciting starter such as Matt Harvey or Zach Wheeler would be recalled to give their rotation a shot in the arm down the stretch.
Instead, Ramirez will help fill out a decimated Mets' bullpen. The Mets' pen has been overtaxed by short outings by their starting pitchers. Miguel Batista only lasted three innings on Saturday.
