Mets Promote Right-Hander Jack Egbert, Send Robert Carson Down To Binghamton
NEW YORK (WFAN) - The Mets have optioned left-handed pitcher Robert Carson to Double-A Binghamton and promoted right-hander Jack Egbert from Triple-A Buffalo, the club confirmed on Friday.
Carson pitched just three Major League innings for New York this season, allowing two earned runs -- including a homer -- on three hits and two walks. The rest of his campaign has been spent in Binghamton, where the 23-year-old has posted an impressive 1.84 ERA in 14 2/3 innings.
Egbert, a Staten Island native, made his Major League debut with the White Sox in 2009 and struggled mightily in his only two appearances, allowing eight earned runs in just 2 2/3 frames. But the 29-year-old has been very solid with Triple-A Buffalo this season, pitching to the tune of a 2.08 ERA with 17 strikeouts and five walks in 26 innings pitched.
In related news, reliever Pedro Beato -- currently on the 60-day disabled list with a right rotator cuff strain -- was promoted to Triple-A Buffalo to continue his rehabilitation process after tossing four scoreless frames for the Class A St. Lucie Mets.
