Mets Owner Fred Wilpon Talks Madoff Betrayal
NEW YORK (WCBS 880) - In his most expansive comments on the subject, the Mets owner talks about being ripped off by Ponzi schemer Bernard Madoff.

It's been nearly two years since Madoff's scheme unravelled and Fred Wilpon still sounds stunned.
"That was a total betrayal of us. We were investors for something like 25 years," Wilpon told WCBS 880 reporter Peter Haskell.
Wilpon also said, "You don't like to lose money that is just stolen from you, but the betrayal is something I'll never ever forget. I'll go to my grave in that one."
While the loss hurts, Wilpon insists he is not broke.
Now, despite what some fans might say, there is no indication he's scrimping.
Wilpon says, "We've set a budget. We've always gone over the budget."
The Mets had the fifth highest payroll in baseball this year at $136-million.
