Mets Offer Free Tickets, Perks For Volunteer Efforts
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The New York Mets have teamed with the charity New York Cares to reward people with free tickets in exchange for volunteer efforts.
As WCBS 880's Marla Diamond reported, one volunteer effort was in progress this week in Far Rockaway – an area that was devastated by Superstorm Sandy seven months ago.
The line of people in need of basic necessities such as toothpaste and formula stretched out of the Rockaways Action Center and down the block.

"That's the way of life now," said Aria Dough, who runs the center. "Most people call it recovery, we call it the second wave, because what we're seeing now, people who were in hotels who are coming back now and they're really staring from ground zero."
Mets pitcher Greg Burke pitched in to help.
"You know cause essentially, you know, we're all humans, we're family, we're all trying to get back to where we need to be and this is everybody's, everybody's problem, you know what I mean?" Burke said.
The Mets Volunteer Challenge rewards fans with a variety of perks or ticket packages depending on how many volunteer efforts they complete.
Those who complete three to five projects will receive the "Home Run" package, with four tickets to a Mets game in September. Those who complete six to eight projects will receive the "Grand Slam" package, with four September tickets and scoreboard recognition, and those who complete nine or more projects will receive the "Perfect Game" package, with four September ticket, scoreboard recognition and an opportunity to participate in a pre-game ceremony on the field.
