Mets' Matt Harvey Makes Cover Of Sports Illustrated
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Matt Harvey is really, really good.
We're talking cover-of-Sports-Illustrated good.
The Mets phenom is featured on the front of this week's SI magazine, flanked by the headline "The Dark Knight of Gotham." Harvey has dominated in 2013, flirting with both a no-hitter on April 13 and a perfect game four starts later.
"I want to be that guy when they know you're starting against them, they go, 'Oh, crap,' " Harvey said in veteran sportswriter Tom Verducci's cover story.
In the piece, Verducci noted a conversation between Harvey and pitching coach Dan Warthen, who told the 24-year-old he'd win 17 games if he could pitch 210 innings.
"If I throw 210 I'm winning 20," said Harvey.
Harvey is 4-0 this season with a 1.44 ERA and 62 strikeouts in 56.1 innings. The Mets (14-21) are 6-2 with him on the mound.
He made his debut on July 26, 2012, after being selected seventh overall in the 2010 draft.
Mike Conley of the Memphis Grizzlies made this week's regional cover of SI.
Now about that jinx...
