WATCH: Matt Harvey Talks Mets With Jon Stewart On 'The Daily Show'
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Mets ace Matt Harvey was a guest on Thursday night's edition of "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart."
Stewart -- a lifelong Mets fan -- was thrilled to have the star pitcher on his program, and he didn't hide his enthusiasm. After Harvey presented him with a customized No. 17 Mets jersey, the host made sure that the 26-year-old's arm was comfortable and safe.
Asked what it feels like to be a young star playing in New York City -- and leading a team that his historically disappointed -- Harvey answered humbly and confidently.
"I think it's excitement," the 2013 All-Star said. "I think for us and the whole staff, I think we're excited about the future. We're excited about now. And I think the most important thing is to focus on what we're doing now. We're not looking to next year, the year after. We're trying to win now."
When Stewart awkwardly -- and hilariously -- brought up the notion that the Mets might eventually let Harvey go, the hard-throwing righty simply shrugged and moved on to the next question as the audience cracked up.
Harvey will start for New York on Friday night when the Mets host the Marlins in the opener of a three-game series at Citi Field.
In nine starts this season, Harvey is 5-2 with a 2.91 ERA. He's struck out 60 and walked 10 in 58 2/3 innings.
