Mets Lose Another Bat; Angel Pagan Out Vs. Padres With Back Spasms
NEW YORK (WFAN/AP) -- Mets center fielder Angel Pagan left Wednesday night's 9-5 loss to San Diego with lower back spasms, further depleting New York's injury-riddled lineup.
He was left off the lineup for Thursday afternoon's finale. Scott Hairston will lead off and play center field.
"Nothing severe. Probably a day or so," manager Terry Collins said.
Pagan singled leading off the first inning and stole second base, then struck out looking with the bases loaded in the second. He started feeling tightness in his back after the strikeout. Pagan then made a throwing error in the top of the second.
Jason Pridie pinch-hit for Pagan with two on in the fourth and took over in center field.
Pagan homered in the previous two games. He moved up to the leadoff spot Monday when All-Star shortstop Jose Reyes was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained hamstring.
The Mets are missing first baseman Ike Davis (ankle) and his replacement, Daniel Murphy, who was batting .320 with 28 doubles before sustaining a season-ending knee injury Sunday.
