Mets' Jason Bay Could Come Off DL, Make Debut Tuesday
NEW YORK (WFAN/AP) -- The Mets have been patiently waiting for Jason Bay's return. His original target date of April 9 was recently pushed back by GM Sandy Alderson to April 26.
But if all goes well during a Monday meeting with Mets manager Terry Collins, Bay could come off the disabled list for Tuesday's game against Houston.
"We're going to see how he's doing," Collins said. "I just told him, 'Let's sit down and talk.'"
Bay, on the DL with a rib cage injury, was 0-for-3 while playing seven innings in his second injury rehab game with Class-A St. Lucie on Sunday. He was 1 for 2 on Saturday night with an intentional walk.
"He's got 15 at-bats or something in the last five days," Collins said. "To get him back and get him in our lineup is going to mean a lot to us."
If Bay isn't activated for Tuesday's game, he'll head to Triple-A Buffalo.
"I hope he's ready to play," Collins said. "I hope he's ready to hit, but to get him back and get him in our lineup means a lot to us."
