Mets' Bobby Parnell Has Finger Numbness, Will Be Examined Wednesday
NEW YORK (WFAN/AP) -- Bobby Parnell has struggled coming out of the embattled Mets' bullpen -- to the tune of a 6.14 ERA. On Tuesday, he was booed off the mound after balking in a run and allowing a two-run single to Astros infielder Angel Sanchez.
"I'm having a hard time gripping the baseball right now," the reliever said after yesterday's loss. "Been fighting it for a week and a half and it's not getting any better."
Parnell said he's lacked feeling lately in the middle finger on his pitching hand.
"I don't even feel like I have the baseball in my hands," he said. "I don't think it's anything serious, I don't think it's anything long-term. ... I've been trying to fight through it, and it's not getting any better. It's not helping the team."
Mets manager Terry Collins said the reliever will be examined Wednesday.
"We're going to investigate a couple of things," said Collins. "I haven't seen a real good fastball from him, and I'm a little worried about why."
"We're not 100 percent sure what it is," Parnell said. "We're just going to get it looked at and go from there."
