Mets' Alderson Keeps Taking To Twitter To Voice Displeasure Over All-Star Game Fan Vote
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Mets third baseman David Wright -- who is having an MVP-type season for New York in 2012 -- was beaten out in the National League All-Star fan-voting ballot by the Giants' Pablo Sandoval by 1.6 million votes.
Wright, who has had a far superior season than Sandoval, led the voting by a substantial margin throughout May and June, only to be bounced by the "Kung Fu Panda" after a furious rally sparked by devoted Giants fans.
Mets general manager Sandy Alderson was not pleased with this recent proceeding, and he hasn't been shy about expressing his emotions.
The longtime and highly respected executive took to Twitter to voice his displeasure with the outcome.
On Sunday, Alderson tweeted the following: "Wright vs. Sandoval: A city of 8 million was outvoted by a city of 800,000."
Most thought that would be the end of it, as Wright was selected as a reserve on the National League All-Star team anyway despite the fan vote, but Alderson didn't quit there.
On Tuesday, the Harvard Law School graduate tweeted again in regard to the matter, and this time the tone came off as a bit more bitter. Alderson tweeted," ASG election of "Kung Fu Panda" shows the value of a cute nickname. Surprised Giants fans didn't elect a "ball dude" to start at 3B."
Wright was named an All-Star for the sixth time in 2012, while Sandoval will play in the Midsummer Class for the second time.
The Mets' most feared hitter is batting .354 with nine home runs and 50 RBIs thus far in 2012 (not to mention a tremendous .447 on-base percentage), while Sandoval is hitting .300 with six home runs and 25 RBIs.
