New Metro-North Timetables Aim To Improve Peak Performance
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Metro-North Railroad is taking steps to shorten train rides with new timetables coming out this weekend.
The new schedules look to "improve performance in peak periods" by reducing the time some trains spend at each station stop.
Commuter advocate Jim Cameron said it's a small step forward, but a good one.
"A handful of trains that are going to run a few minutes faster, but the railroad itself admits it's going to still be several years before all the maintenance and repair is done that will return all of our trains to the times we used to see," he told WCBS 880's Fran Schneidau.
Train travel speeds were reduced following some serious derailments over the past few years.
Metro-North now expects the shorter stops will cut up to four minutes in travel time.
And for riders who relish their quiet time, the railroad is adding a second quiet car on every weekday train.
The changes take effect on Sunday. For more information, click here.
