Metro-North: New Canaan Branch To Resume Service Tuesday Morning
NEW CANAAN, Conn. (CBSNewYork) - Commuters on the Metro-North New Canaan Branch have been without rail service since Oct. 28, the day superstorm Sandy hit.
More than two weeks later, New Canaan commuters continued to be shuttled by bus to the Stamford station to link up with running trains for the start of the work week.
But Monday afternoon, Metro-North announced New Canaan Branch service will resume Tuesday morning.

Prior to the announcement, New Canaan First Selectman Rob Mallozzi said Metro-North had not been providing satisfactory updates.
"It's bad enough that there is no service, it's worse when town leadership isn't even informed as such and I can say patience is wearing very, very thin with our rail commuters," Mallozzi told WCBS 880 Connecticut Bureau Chief Fran Schneidau.

Metro-North spokesperson Marjorie Anders said crews had a lot of work to do on the New Canaan Branch to ready it for service.
"They had to remove all the trees and then they removed broken poles and whatnot and then they started to re-hang all of the trolley wire, the catenary wire, which powers the trains on the New Canaan [Branch]," Anders told Schneidau.
Anders said the system was being tested before service will resume.
