Metro-North Cross-Honoring Danbury Branch Tickets As Crews Work To Repair Signal Glitch
DANBURY, Conn. (CBSNewYork) -- Signal problems on Metro-North's Danbury branch have prompted the railroad to allow riders to use their tickets on the Harlem line as crews work to correct the issue.
After installing a new signal system last November, Metro-North says a computer glitch is causing railroad crossing gates to operate incorrectly.

The MTA says the glitch drops crossing gates even when there is no train approaching. As a safety measure, trains are stopping at all gate crossings, delaying trains.
Metro-North, the Department of Transportation and two manufacturers say they're working on the problem, but until it's fixed, Metro-North is cross-honoring Danbury tickets on the Harlem line.
"We recognize that recurring delays on the Danbury Branch are causing difficulties for our commuters' daily schedules," said Metro-North Railroad President Joseph J. Giulietti. "In the interim, we are going to make this change, and any other change possible, to help our customers until we can restore reliability to train schedules on the branch."
When the system fails, Metro-North says the gates drop as a precaution, but the railroad insists they are not aware of any instance in which the gates and lights have failed when a train approaches, WCBS 880's Paul Murnane reported.
