Meeting With Collins And Alderson Helps Struggling Met Davis Bust Out Of Slump
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Ike Davis finally ended a 2-for-44 slump on Sunday, by going 2-for-3 in the Mets' rallying 4-2 victory over the Braves.
With the Yankees visiting Citi Field, Davis is looking to keep the momentum going after his clutch performance on Sunday.
Davis finally snapped his prolonged funk at the plate with a tiebreaking single in the eighth inning as the Mets' victory ended their eight-game losing skid at Citi Field.
It took a meeting with manager Terry Collins and Sandy Alderson to get Davis in the right spirits. Davis was feeling miserable during the prolonged slump and said the meeting helped him gain a new frame of mind.
"They wanted me to have fun again. Smile more, laugh on the field. I know that the fans may hate that, but I won't perform any better by being miserable," Davis said. "And I am now 1-for-1 with the new approach. The meeting today helped."
Davis is an overall .158 batter in 2013 with 4 home runs and 11 RBI in 45 games. He's hoping to avoid being sent down to Triple-A Las Vegas.
