The results released Tuesday classify Gilbert's death as "undetermined," according to the Suffolk County Medical Examiner's Office.
Gilbert's mother, Mari, said she's frustrated with the report.
"I was hoping for something more substantial and solid," she said.
Gilbert's remains were found on Dec. 13, 2011 in a marshy area on Oak Beach about a quarter-mile from where her cell phone, purse, jeans, shoes and lip gloss were found the week before.
Police have said detectives believe Gilbert drowned when she was last seen running and screaming for help in Oak Beach back in May of 2010.
But Mari Gilbert's attorney John Ray said he believes the evidence show Gilbert was murdered.
"It's overwhelmingly evident this woman died by the same person or persons who killed the other women," he told WCBS 880's Sophia Hall. "We can't except that this woman died by accident."
It was while searching for Gilbert on Dec. 11, 2010 when police found the first set of human remains along Ocean Parkway.
By April of 2011, police had discovered 10 sets of remains on Gilgo Beach, all found about seven miles apart along Ocean Parkway.
Authorities said they will continue to actively investigate Gilbert's death.
