Mayor Booker Promises Tight Security For Stanley Cup

The New Jersey Devils will be hosting the Los Angeles Kings at 8:00 p.m. at the Prudential Center.
Mayor Cory Booker said the eyes of the world will be on Newark and he promised tight security, reported WCBS 880's Marla Diamond.
"We're doing everything necessary to make sure that the record of security for Devils hockey games continues to be what it is, which is virtually flawless," Booker told reporters. "We're just thrilled about it. It's going to be an exciting time."
On a side note, a Devils Stanley Cup win could be very awkward for the mayor who is in a very public feud with team owner Jeff Vanderbeek over a revenue sharing deal that left the city with a $600,000 bill.
The mayor denied that it's anything personal, despite having branded Vanderbeek as one of the NHL's most despicable owners.
"We have nothing but goodwill. The issues we have with Jeff Vanderbeek, my prayer is that they work themselves out in the long run. The reality is right now everybody in Newark is pulling for the Devils to win," Booker said.
However, Booker, who owns season tickets, hasn't said yet if he'll attend any of the games at the Rock.
"I've got to see if my schedule allows it," he said. "But we'll see."
