Mayor Bill De Blasio: FDNY Commissioner Sal Cassano In 'Interim Role'
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Mayor Bill de Blasio confirmed Monday that FDNY Commissioner Sal Cassano is serving in an "interim role."
The mayor made the comments at a news conference in the Riverdale section of the Bronx, WCBS 880's Rich Lamb reported. Cassano is a holdover from the Bloomberg administration.
"I think he's performed admirably, and I give him a lot of respect, particiularly for what he did in the middle of the East Harlem tragedy, which was an extremely difficult moment," de Blasio said.

"I thought he and all the men and women who serve under him did a fantastic job, but it's been clear from the beginning that it's an interim role."
De Blasio declined to elaborate on his search for Cassano's success, saying only that "of course" he's looking for a new fire commissioner.
