Mastic Man Pleads Not Guilty In Fatal Hit-And-Run
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A Long Island man has pleaded not guilty to charges he struck and killed a 24-year-old woman.
Preston Mimms of Mastic was charged with leaving the scene of the July 29, 2011, accident.
The victim, 24-year-old Erika Hughes -- a single mother of a 15-month-old girl -- was walking on Mastic Road in Mastic Beach just before midnight when she was struck, police said. The impact threw her body against a curb.
Police said Mimms fled the scene without so much as slowing down.
Mimms was arraigned in Suffolk County District Court on a grand jury arrest warrant. He's being held on $250,000 cash bail.
