Couple Dead In Mastic Beach Murder-Suicide; 6 Children Taken From Home
MASTIC BEACH, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A man and woman were found shot to death in an apparent murder-suicide on Long Island Thursday, and six children were removed from the home by police.
Around 4:40 p.m., police were called to a home on Woodside Drive in Mastic Beach, after four of the children came home to the residence from school and found themselves locked out, according to Suffolk County police Detective Lt. Kevin Beyrer.
The children went to a local store to ask an adult for help, and the adult went to the house and looked in the window, Beyrer said. The man saw two people lying on the floor and called 911, Beyrer said.

Police forced their way into the house and found Jenni Lee Street, 27, and her husband, Wayne Street, 28, dead at the scene, police said. Wayne Street had apparently shot and killed his wife before taking his own life, police said.
Two very young children – one an infant and one just under 2 years old – were also in the house at the time, Beyrer said.
Shocked neighbors said the family only recently moved into the neighborhood and that they knew little about them.
"Horrible, it's a crazy world. I don't know what to say," one neighbor told WCBS 880's Mike Xirinachs. "What happens to the kids? What do you say? What do you do?"
The six children were taken to a local hospital where they were interviewed by child protective services, police said. They were not injured.
No suicide notes were found at the scene, Beyrer said.
