According to Suffolk County Police, a driver of a Nissan sedan apparently ran a stop sign at the intersection of Flower and Neighborhood Roads around 11 a.m.

The car hit an oncoming vehicle injuring that driver and passenger. The driver of the Nissan left the scene, leaving the hurt toddler in the backseat and two other injured adult passengers.

Police were still at the location poring over the wreckage hours later.

Suffolk Police arrived on the scene so quickly after the crash occurred it led to speculation that the crash was the result of a police chase, which Suffolk Police adamantly deny.

"I heard the crash, and then the cops were all here," one woman told CBS2's Carolyn Gusoff.

Police worked to free the two people trapped in the PT Cruiser.

Meanwhile, police do not have an update on the toddler's condition.
