Maserati Crashes Into 2 Stores On Long Island
WEST ISLIP, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Two stores suffered extensive damage when an expensive car came crashing into both businesses Monday night.
Michael Bidetti, 40, was driving a 2010 Maserati southbound on Udall Road around 10:30 p.m. when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into two stores on Higbie Lane in West Islip, police said.
Surveillance video showed sparks flying as the Italian sports car headed straight toward Higbie Bagels and Flavor Crisp Chicken, with no indication of slowing down, CBS2's Steve Langford reported.
"That guy came from there, missed that tree, come over that curb and crashed into this building and ripped this whole thing down," property owner Tony Castegna said.
Both stores were closed at the time of the crash.
Bedetti is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The two businesses are out of commission for the foreseeable future.
Loyal customers say they always worry about this stretch of road.
"There are cars that are going very fast and there's going to be a disaster," customer Allison Lorentzen.
The vehicle was impounded for a safety check.
The investigation is ongoing.
