Massapequa Man Pleads Guilty To Crash That Killed 3 Boston University Students In New Zealand
AUCKLAND, New Zealand (CBSNewYork) -- A college student from Long Island has admitted responsibility for a crash that killed three of his friends in New Zealand.
Stephen Houseman, of Massapequa, pleaded guilty Wednesday to seven counts of careless driving causing injury or death.
The 20-year-old was behind the wheel when a minivan full of Boston University students overturned on May 12. Police said the vehicle had drifted to the side of the road and then rolled several times when Houseman tried to correct course.
Killed in the crash were 20-year-old Daniela Lekhno of Manalapan, New Jersey; 21-year-old Austin Brashears of California; and 21-year-old Roch Jauberty, of Paris, France.
Houseman has been disqualified from driving for six months and must pay court costs. He could have been sentenced to 21 months behind bars.
