Massacre Suspect James Holmes In Solitary Confinement; Reportedly Spit At Guards, Inmates

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - He thinks that he's acting in a movie.

That's how one Colorado jail employee described massacre suspect James Holmes, who is currently in solitary confinement.

One released inmate told the New York Daily News that he was welcomed to the lockup with a chant of "kid killer," in reference to the six-year-old girl who died in the shootings. Holmes is said to be spitting at guards, inmates and even at the door.

It was revealed on Sunday that the massacre could have potentially been even worse. Federal authorities said that his semi-automatic rifle jammed, forcing him to switch to another weapon. It was also revealed that Holmes applied to join a Colorado gun range prior to the incident, according to The Associated Press. He was never granted a membership, however, after the owner became concerned about his "bizarre" message and strange behavior.

However, police have finally confirmed that Holmes' apartment is all clear.

President Barack Obama was in Aurora on Sunday to visit with victims' families.

The President said that he was there "as a father and as a husband."

Mitt Romney called the President's appearance "the right thing." Romney avoided making partisan attacks against President Obama "in keeping with the seriousness of the day."

Speaking of victims, more details are also emerging on those who were killed in the massacre. In addition to six-year-old Veronica Moser-Sullivan, there were three men who died as heroes, all of whom shielded their girlfriends from the gunfire. Jon Blunk, Matt McQuinn and Alex Teves all pushed the women down and took bullets for them, and all three girlfriends survived with minor injuries.
