'I'm Going To Die:' Maryland Woman Mauled By Bear, Survives

FREDERICK, M.D. (CBSNewYork) - A Maryland woman is lucky to be alive after a bloody encounter with a bear Wednesday evening left her battered and bruised.

63-year-old Karen Osborne was mauled as she walked down her daughter's driveway to check on the family dog.

"He's broken my arms and legs," Osborne can be heard saying on a 911 recording released by the Frederick County Sheriff's Department Thursday. "I can't move and I'm bleeding and I'm going to die."

Osborne stayed on the phone with the 911 dispatcher, calmly describing the situation even as the bear continued to loom.

"He's behind me, and he's snorting and stomping and he's kicking the ground and getting ready to attack," she plead.

As CBS2's Mike Hellgren reported, authorities were forced to euthanize the bear, which had three cubs that were big enough to survive on their own.

According to authorities, Osborne suffered a broken arm required over 80 stitches. She remains in the hospital at this time.
