Brandon Marshall: 'I Don't Want Kaepernick' As Jets Quarterback
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- New York Jets wide receiver Brandon Marshall made his feelings known about who he wants quarterbacking the team next season.
Speaking to ESPN on Wednesday, Marshall said he wants Ryan Fitzpatrick as his quarterback, not Colin Kaepernick.
"I don't want Kaepernick. I think he's good. My guy's Fitz. It's nothing against Kaepernick," Marshall told ESPN. "What I'm saying is I have my quarterbacks, so I'm good."
The Kaepernick question came up after the New York Daily News reported Tuesday that the 49ers quarterback is looking to leave San Francisco and that the Jets are his preferred destination.
Daily News reporter Manish Mehta told WFAN's Joe Benigno and Evan Roberts that Kaepernick wants to bolt the 49ers because he has "a lot of hurt feelings."
"He's not happy with the organization, and he has professional and personal reasons for wanting to play for the Jets," he told WFAN. "The Jets are not the only team that he would be happy playing for. It's just the team he would prefer."
Kaepernick, however, is still under contract through 2020 and is due more than $77 million in base salary over the next five seasons.
Fitzpatrick is currently a free agent and has said previously that he wants to come back to the Jets. The Jets have also said they want to re-sign him.
"They are happy with the way Fitzpatrick played," Mehta told WFAN. "They are optimistic that he can get better working with Brandon Marshall, Eric Decker in Chan Gailey's system for a second year. But they don't have a long-term answer at quarterback, and they're smart enough to know that. So it's not like they're not looking at other options. They'd be foolish if they weren't looking at other options."
Kaepernick was benched after starting the season 2-6 and was later placed on injured reserve. Fitzpatrick led the Jets to a 10-6 record.
