Global Markets Plummet Over Possible Trump Presidency
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Global markets plummeted Tuesday night as the presidential race between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton tightened.
As of 12 a.m., the Dow futures were down more than 800 points.
Earlier Tuesday, investors seemed confident that Clinton would win the White House. She was seen as a more stable option.
However, as early results raised the possibility of a Trump presidency, markets took a sharp turn.
The Republican is viewed as less predictable, given his tough talk on global trade.

The close race also had ramification on markets worldwide. In Mexico, the peso plunged 7 percent against the U.S. dollar, its biggest dip in eight years. Meanwhile, the yen and gold were on the rise.
