Magic Is In The Air As Media Day Heightens Anticipation For March Madness

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- March ushers in a celebration of two things; better weather, and college basketball.

If you're a hoops fan or just decided to enter the office pool, everyone knows about 'March Madness.'

Tuesday was the CBS March Madness media day, and as CBS2's Steve Overmyer reported there's one word to describe how those closest to the game feel about the month of March 'magical.'

The tournament script is yet unwritten, but the passion is confirmed.

"These young kids playing their hearts out. The emotion on full display. The running on the floor, the tears on the sidelines. It's got a lot to offer," CBS Sports Announcer, Jim Nance said.

"The best team doesn't always win. This is the most wide open tournament there's ever been. No clear cut favorite," added Charles Barkley.

The tournament will be available on twelve different platforms, and every internet compatible device.

"So you in effect siting at home are your own producer. The way people are consuming TV now, you've got to give them the opportunity to do that," Sean McManus explained.

"This is how I watch anyways. I watch on my phone more than my television," Kenny Smith said.

Brackets have been a common thread through the years, but the methods for filling them out have always varied.

"I'm not a bracketologist," CBS Sports Analyst, Clark Kellog said, "I'm very much an analyst by observation."

"I'll rush through and pick the Final Four and invariably, I'm wrong," Bill Raftery said.

You can always start with the Final Four and work backwards, but that strategy could have you out in the first week.

"I go with the Uncle Alma mater method. Well my uncle went there, so go in the Sweet 16," CBS Sports' Jamie Erdhal said.

The only local team who has already booked a trip to the dance are the Iona Gaels.
