Jersey Shore Drowning Victim Identified
MANTOLOKING, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Authorities identified the Yonkers man who drowned while swimming with friends at the Jersey shore on the Fourth of July.
John Crimmins, 22, was swimming in the ocean Saturday afternoon when he vanished off the coast of Mantoloking. The missing swimmer was found dead in the surf about a half-hour later near Strickland Street, authorities said.
Al Della Fave, a spokesman for the Ocean County prosecutor's office, said in a statement that lifeguards in Mantoloking called 911 about the missing swimmer at 2:35 p.m.
Searchers from the U.S. Coast Guard, New Jersey State Police and fire crews from surrounding communities responded, scouring the water.
Crimmins was found by lifeguards just after 3 p.m. He was given CPR and transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
