Man's Legs Severed By D Train; Another Man Killed By E Train
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A man's legs were severed by a subway train in the Bronx Saturday night, and another man was killed by a train in Manhattan Sunday morning – bringing the total number of subway-related deaths or injuries to seven in the past week.
In the Bronx incident, the victim got up from a bench on the platform at the 161st Street-Yankee Stadium stop, staggered, and fell onto the track bed, according to a New York Post report. He was hit by a D train and his legs were severed, the newspaper reported.
The man was taken an area hospital, and was expected to survive, the newspaper reported.
A witness, Joey Boots, captured video of firefighters and paramedics responding to the scene. The first responders are seen carrying the injured victim through the mezzanine level of the station on a stretcher, and up to a waiting ambulance at street level.
At 9:30 a.m. Sunday, another man was struck and killed by an E train at the 23rd Street station in Chelsea, according to published reports. Police said in published reports that the man jumped onto the tracks.
On Friday night, a man was killed by a southbound No. 2 train at the 34th Street-Penn Station stop, police told 1010 WINS.
On Wednesday, a man was hit and killed by an F train at the Roosevelt Avenue-74th Street station in Jackson Heights, Queens, and another man was hurt after falling onto the tracks at the 59th Street-Columbus Circle station.
On Thursday, another person was hit and killed by an F train at the Briarwood-Van Wyck Boulevard, also in Queens, according to published reports. And on Friday morning, a man was hit by a No. 1 train at the 86th Street stop on the Upper West Side.
Published reports indicated that the incidents on the F train were both suicides.
