Man's Elderly Mother Left On Floor All Night In New Jersey
LODI, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A northern New Jersey woman and her uncle have been charged with senior neglect, after they allegedly left an elderly woman lying on the floor for as long as 15 hours before ever calling for help.
Bergen County Prosecutor's Office spokeswoman Maureen Parenta told The Record the woman, whose age was not disclosed, fell in the home she shares with her son, Paul Wanco, 57, and his niece, Jennifer Wanco.
Parenta said when the older woman fell, Jennifer Wanco contacted her uncle and asked what she should do. Paul Wanco allegedly told her he would deal with his mother when he got home, authorities said.
Parenta said the elderly woman remained on the floor for all night – up to 15 hours in total -- before emergency help was called. She was later placed in a rehabilitation facility.
Paul Wanco is listed on the Lodi borough Web site as the fire marshal for the Fire Prevention Bureau, the newspaper reported.
