Manhattan Mom Sues DOE After Daughter Allegedly Bullied, Beaten At School
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) --A Manhattan mother is suing the Department of Education after her daughter was allegedly bullied and assaulted in school.
Carmen Valentin claims her 13-year-old daughter was bullied and then beaten last May inside of P.S. 188 on the Lower East Side.
To make matters worse, she claims school officials erased cellphone video of the alleged attack before police could see it.

The alleged attackers have been transferred to different schools, but Valentin claims the school has failed to transfer her daughter where she would feel safe.
Valentin said her daughter is so traumatized that she hasn't gone back to the school in a year and has isolated herself at home.
"She is now under psychiatric care and she is not the same person," Valentin said. "She's not her normal self and I really don't know what else to do. And she says to me, 'What did I do wrong?' and I'm telling my daughter, 'You didn't do anything wrong.'"
Her lawyer Adam Thompson said they're suing the Department of Education because the school has failed to take action from day one.
"They failed to call the police to involve them, they failed to make an arrest," Thompson said. "We want to get this kid back in school so she can get an education and go on with her life."
The DOE said its records show Valentin requested home schooling for her daughter last October and then applied last week for readmittance to P.S. 188.
The DOE said she was granted readmission but hasn't registered yet.
