Manhattan Couple Raises $10,000 To Track Down Missing Dog 'Sugar' The Pit Bull
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A Manhattan couple is offering $10,000 for the return of their missing dog.
As CBS2's Scott Rapoport reported, the story is about more than the money, it's about the goodness of people who banded together to help others.
Morgan Bogle's 5-year-old pit bull "Sugar" is arguably the most wanted dog in America.
"It feels like a nightmare," Bogle said.
Sugar, who was rescued from a shelter 3 years ago, disappeared on Feb. 23.
Since then, Bogle and her boyfriend Scott MacDonough have been disconsolate and have done everything they can to find her.
They have plastered the city with signs, five thousand of them, and started with a $5,000 reward which has grown to $10,000.
The money has been raised by friends and complete strangers after an enormous social media blitz titled "Find Sugar In NYC."
The movement has nearly 17,000 likes on Facebook and nearly 2,000 followers on twitter, and has drawn retweets from celebrities like Susan Sarandon and Khloe Kardashian.
Sugar's owner said it means everything.
"She has been my best friend for 3 years. It's so painful," Bogle said.
Sugar was in the care of a dog-sitter when the precious pet somehow went missing, Bogle told CBS2's Rapoport.
She said the circumstances of what happened are still unclear, but that the sitter was acting erratically.
They have no idea where Sugar is.
Sugar's owner said more than a thousand volunteers have participated in search parties to help find the dog.
The story recently caught the attention of NBA star and former Knick David Lee, who now plays for the Golden State Warriors.
Lee put up $5,000 of his own money to help find sugar, bringing the total to $10,000.
"I'm so grateful. I can't even thank him enough for that gesture," Bogle said.
Thousands of dollars and thousands of good thoughts and well-wishes from folks all over in hopes of finding one dog.
