Mangano Touts Growing Movie Production In Nassau County
MINEOLA, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - "Hollywood East" is how Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano describes his county because of its appeal to movie and television production.
"More filming days than four of the five boroughs combined, $90 million of economic impact," he said Monday.
In 2012, Nassau County hosted over 650 production days - more days than Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and the Bronx.

"We're growing. We're certainly a very strong competitor in film and TV production," said Mangano.
Some films produced there include "The Avengers," "Michael Clayton," "Sex and the City 2," "Julie and Julia," "Morning Glory," "The Sorcerer's Apprentice," "Not Fade Away," "Disconnect," "Admission," and "Bitter Pill."
Television shows filmed there include "The Americans," "Black List," "The Following," "Person of Interest," "The Carrie Diaries," "The Good Wife," "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," "Gossip Girl," "White Collar," "Golden Boy," "Deception," "Royal Pains," "Elementary," "Girls," and "Boardwalk Empire."
Producer Michael Arbore said Nassau's location gives it great appeal to many hollywood heavyweights.
"You've got Steven Spielberg. He lives out here. He has a house here. You got a lot of actors. The Baldwins live out here, and they like being close to home," he said.
He said Long Island can be anywhere.
"There are a couple movies that were filmed here that were faked for, like, Connecticut or Boston," he said.
The former United States Navy-Grumman Corporation property in Bethpage is now the home of two successful production studios that encompass three buildings and nine sound stages.
More than a dozen producers and casting directors are busy touring the county this week.
