Mangano Re-Elected As Nassau County Executive Over Predecessor Suozzi
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Edward Mangano declared that Nassau County was "on the right" path for job creation and opportunities for residents, as he trounced his Democratic challenger Tuesday night.
As of 11 p.m., with 49 percent with of the precincts reporting, the Republican Mangano was up 61 percent compared with 39 percent for the Democrat Tom Suozzi.

Four years ago, the popular Suozzi suffered an unexpected loss. And as CBS 2's Jennifer McLogan reported, Mangano also lost the endorsements of many major papers, but he pounded the pavement and got out the vote in the very wealthy, but broke Long Island county of nearly 2 million people.
He offered his victory speech shortly before 11 p.m. Tuesday.
"I want to thank our residents out there for all their overwhelming support, and approval, and the work that we've been doing on their behalf to make Nassau County more affordable, to create more jobs and opportunities for our residents," Mangano said at his Westbury headquarters. "We're on the right path, and I thank our residents for keeping us on that path."
Mangano won in large part on the strength of the Republican, Roman Catholic and independent vote, McLogan reported.
Suozzi lost to Mangano in the last election by fewer than 400 votes.
