Mangano: Increased DWI Patrols In Nassau County For New Year's
MINEOLA, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Extra police officers will be patrolling Nassau County roads to spot and stop drunk drivers on New Year's Eve.
County Executive Ed Mangano says police will be targeting drunk drivers to stop senseless alcohol-related accidents during one of the busiest party days of the year.
He warned: "If you drive drunk at any point over New Year's Eve, you will be arrested.''
"New Year's Eve is typically one of the biggest party nights of the year. We will be targeting drunk drivers and looking to prevent the kind of senseless alcohol-related accidents that, unfortunately, often occur during a holiday," Mangano said.
The increased patrols are part of the county's "STOP DWI'' initiative. It's funded by DWI fines.
Last New Year's Eve, 47 people were arrested for DWI in Nassau County.
