Man Struck, Killed By NJ TRANSIT Train Identified
NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Authorities have released the name of the man who was struck and killed while leaning over a train platform in New Jersey, splattering four others with parts of his body.
The victim has been identified as 50-year-old Frank Farriella of Middlesex.
NJ TRANSIT spokesman John Durso Jr. said witnesses reported Farriella was leaning in the path of the oncoming train at the New Brunswick station platform when he was struck Tuesday.
Eddie Williams, who was standing nearby, said he did not know why Farriella was leaning off the platform.
"Really hard to say because he was leaning and he never really left his feet," he said.
About 300 people were aboard the New York-bound Northeast Corridor train.
Durso said one person on the platform sustained fractured ribs. Another complained of back, head and neck injuries and a third complained of head pain. A fourth person declined medical treatment.
Northeast Corridor service was temporarily suspended following the accident.
